The Beauty of Laughter

I had a wonderful evening with my extended family tonight.

My Aunt and cousin came down from Washington for the day and we all were trying to get over to my Nana and Dappa's house to say hi.

My family arrived as things were settling down from dinner but still a lot of family was over. My brothers and sister-in-law were there, my nieces <3, and of course my Aunt and cousin who we had come to see.

The house was warm and full of chatter and laughter. I love that about my family. We get together and we laugh! We swap stories and laugh. We tell jokes and we laugh. We make sarcastic comments to almost anything and everything and laugh. It's such a rich time.

After lots of laughing a short lull occurred so I came up with something that would create more.

I had been watching Phil and Alex the other day and they were doing the Broom Challenge at a friend's house. They were laughing and laughing so hard. As soon as I finished watching their vlog, I got up, grabbed my broom, and all alone in my kitchen was trying desperately to get that broom around my body, and FAILING!

My husband came in and I eagerly engaged him in the challenge. He tried so hard and I guffawed as I do when I'm really tickled. My husband FINALLY got the broom around his body so I got the kids involved to0...

Anyway, back to the family gathering. I thought it would be funny to do it there. First, I had my kids demonstrate what the challenge was because they are great at it! Next, my hubby went and again worked so hard to get it... (while I laughed probably WAY too much throughout). Next, my younger brother tried and succeeded....

Then in was my turn... By the way, I just turned another year old... but I'm still young. It's the fun that keeps us young after all. So, knowing I was going to make a fool of myself and that I've only successfully done the Broom Challenge ONCE, I got up there.
It's hard!

Broom behind my back, flip over my head to the front. Right leg around my right arm and over the broom... over the broom. WHY WON'T MY TOES GO OVER THE BROOM.... I got down on the floor still holding the awkward pose trying my hardest and FAILURE!!!!

I didn't make it. I lay on the floor and laughed at myself.

Then I tried again, and despite the pain made it!

There's such beauty in laughter. It's contagious. I find as a Mom, my moments of joy are so much greater when I take time to be silly, try difficult things, and laugh!! Laugh! What are some of the things that make you laugh? I'd love to hear in the comments below. And remember Mama, to always keep smiling and laughing and enjoying this crazy wonderful life.

Much love,
-Joy
